| Three Army club pitchers combined on a 7-inning no-hitter in VVIA's 21-0 whitewash of RusStar at the SKA-29 stadium.
Yury Zhirov, Nikolai Petrov (1-0) and German Panyushov faced the minimum 21 batters, as two RusStar base runners - who reached on a passed ball and a fielding error - were erased on two double plays. VVIA took the lead in the second inning on Maxim Yudaev's two-out single, first of his four one-run singles in the game, before Petr Koptyukh belted a two-run homer over the wall in right center to become Russian League's all-time leader with 11 career home runs (see Sultan of Swat). SKV 's Alexandr Bogatyrev is second with 10 roundtrippers. Bogatyrev set a single season record with seven HRs in 1995, when he assaulted the short right field wall here at the SKA-29 ballpark as the "Home Run" pole wasn't installed until midway through the 1996 season. VVIA scored ten more runs in the 4th inning, highlighted by Yury Perepelitza's grand slam. |
