| Alexandr Nizov ignited a 5-run burst with two outs in the 3rd with a two-run inside-the-park home run, his career-high third of the season, sending VVIA to its 10th straight victory, 19-2 over MGU at MGU stadium. The Army club leads the rival SKV by a game an a half.
The former U.S. minor leaguer took over the lead in RBIs from teammate Alexandr Fedorov, 33 to 32, as both hitters should soon shatter a single-season mark of 35 ribbies set by Red Devils' Evgeny Puchkov back in 1995. Red-hot Maxim Yudaev, who had never batted .300 over a full season, lifted his average to a league-best .582 with a record-setting nine consecutive hits in the two-game series. He went 5-for-5 on Saturday and got a hit in each of his first four plate appearances on Monday, the 9th bingle coming on a hard grounder through the right side of the infield off the first pitch from Matvei Rusakov. The 20-year-old batsman grounded out in his next two at-bats. Yudaev and Nizov each had streaks of eight straight hits earlier in the season to tie the old feat (see story). VVIA's starter Andrei Polstyanov (3-0) struck out a season-high nine batters in five innings. |
