Part 4. Alexandrov and Shiroky return, help Tornado crash CSK VVS right after the CEB break

CSK VVS and MGU Tornado, the two best teams in Russia, faced each other when Russian champioship resumed right after the 2002 Eurocup break - I actually invited Reiter to stay in Moscow for one more week to witness it.

The outcome of the two-game series on July 6-7 would have made a great news story.

In the first game, Tornado absolutely destroyed CSK 18-0 behind Valentin Alexandrov's 4-hit 7-inning shutout.

The following day, Anton Shiroky tossed 7 1/3 scoreless inning in relief of Alexandr Isakadze as MGU improved to 2-1 on the season against their archrival with a 6-5 victory.

Alexandrov and "Shira" combined for 14 1/3 "zeroes" and two wins. Platonov was no slouch at the plate either (3-for-8, three doubles and five runs scored) - for Tornado of course.

Finally, MGU Tornado's last game before the CEB break was a 10-9 decision against Moskvich on June 13th.

The RBF official scorers were not at the game at all for some reason.

Anton Shiroky batted second and started in RF before switching to 2B: 2-for-3, two walks, three runs scored.

Platonov, in his usual number 3 hole while playing SS, was 3-for-5 with 2 doubles, 3 runs and 3 RBI.

Alexandrov didn't play.
