| Oleg Korneev (2-6) struck out a career-high 14 batters and had a solo homer and a sacrifice fly at the plate to register his first complete game victory in six tries. The lanky right-hander shook off a rocky second inning, allowing only one run rest of the way. His 80 and 2/3 innings pitched this year surpassed Alexei Valyalin's 1997 total of 76 1/3 innings, setting a new single-season record.
With the game tied 8-8 after seven innings, Andrei Sazonov reached first on shortstop Alexandr Isakadze's throwing error, stole second and scored the go-ahead run on Andrei Bolotin's triple to center off the loser Matvei Rusakov (2-1). One out later, Dmitri Likhin made it 10-8 with another three-bagger and Korneev completed the scoring with a sacrifice fly. MGU scored six times on four hits and two walks in the second, highlighted by starting pitcher Gennady Ardzhevanidze's three-run triple, but managed only three hits against Korneev in the final seven frames. |
