| Andrei Polstyanov (5-0) hurled VVIA's second shutout in a row and Yury Perepelitza drove in a season-high five runs, leading the Army club to its 12th straight knockout victory, 15-0 over RusStar at MGU stadium.
RL batting leader Maxim Yudaev, coming off his first hitless game against MGU last Sunday, tied the Evgeny Puchkov single-season hit mark with his 50th hit of the year, an opposite-field triple in the 4th inning. Yudaev grounded out to short and flied out to deep center before lofting the first offering from Ilia Sorokin (1-5) down the right field line to lead off the 4th. The ball fell safely just a couple of feet away from converging right fielder Valentin Alexandrov and rolled all the way into the corner. Alexandr Nizov, aspired to become the RL's second Triple Crown winner since Iosif Gogishvili turned the trick in 1996 with the Yaroslavl Bears, went 2-for-4 to come within seven percentage points of Yudaev's .568 batting average. With only one game remaining, Nizov is one homer and an RBI ahead of Alexandr Fedorov for the league lead. |
