| Dmitri Lukjanchikov broke Spartak's no-hit bid with a leadoff triple off loser Sergei Solovjev (0-2) in the top of the 9th and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch, sending MGU to its first win of the season at MGU stadium.
Spartak starter Alexei Shiroky pitched eight hitless innings, something no Russian Leaguer had done before, but left after throwing 117 pitches and the score tied at two runs apiece after eight. Left fielder Pavel Geraskin and shortstop Valery Platonov helped Shiroky with several fine defensive plays. The right-hander could have exited the game with a lead had Spartak not botched yet another squeeze play in the bottom of the 8th. With runners on second and third and only one out, Alexandr Myaskov failed to protect Roman Russu on a 0-1 pitch and later struck out. Lukjanchikov drilled a 1-0 offering from Solovjev to deep left center to open the 9th inning and scored when the reliever bounced a 0-2 delivery to former Spartak player Sergei Karagodin. Karagodin, followed with a bloop single to right and, after Stanislav Shevelev came in to pitch, swiped second and scored on Anton Tzikunkov's line-drive double to center. Hilberto Lamadris and Ronaldo Claro, two of the four Cubans just added to the MGU roster, started at shortstop and catcher, respectively, in their RL debut. Lamadris opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the top of the 7th, but his throwing error led to two unearned runs in the bottom of the frame. MGU made it 2-2 in the 8th, when Dmitri Komissarov took third on Shiroky's wild pitch and crossed the plate on catcher Igor Lyulchak's throwing error. Matvei Rusakov (1-0) pitched the final four innings for the victory in his first appearance of the season, replacing starter Gennady Ardzhevanidze, who put together five scoreless innings of three-hit ball. |
