| RusStar took advantage of six SKV fielding errors with six unearned runs to pull out a 7-5 upset in the second game between the two teams on Saturday. With a split of the twin bill, SKV fell three games behind the league-leading VVIA.
RusStar's playing manager Alexandr Muratov (2-3) won his second game in a row, giving up only five runs on 10 hits, including five doubles and two triples. He walked four and struck out two. The right-hander posted two victories and a 4.25 ERA in 29 2/3 innings in five games in June-July after going 0-3 with a 20.45 earned run average in 22 innings in four May games. With RusStar trailing 5-4, shortstop Alexei Mosyakin led off the top of the 5th inning with a single to left off reliever Rinat Makhmutov (1-1) and took third base on Andrei Sergienkov's infield single to second before third baseman Igor Makhambetov's throwing error on Kuzjma Kichik's groundball allowed the tying and winning runs to score. Mosyakin, who had three of his team's six hits, also had an RBI double with two outs in the 6th after Andrei Egorov reached on shortstop Dmitri Lukin's second error of the game. Makhmutov allowed no earned runs in four innings of work, lowering his RL-leading ERA to 0.81. SKV's decision to have its RBI leader Dmitri Golubev sacrifice with runners on first and second, a 5-4 lead, and no outs in the 4th backfired as slumping Lukin, hitting only .227 (5-for-22) in his last five games, flied out to left and Sergei Zhigalov popped out to Mosyakin at short. Down by a run, SKV squandered another opportunity in the 6th inning, when Sergei Iljin led off with a triple, but could not advance. SKV scored five runs on seven hits in the first two innings with center fielder Golubev leading the way with a single, triple, his 6th, and two RBIs. The left-handed hitter's 23 ribbies are the most by any player not wearing an Army club uniform. |
