| Right-handers Alexandr Esin (1-3) and Alexandr Isakadze sent down 13 Spartak batters on strikes and both contributed two hits at the plate, leading MGU to its third straight win.
Esin's bases-loaded single in the 8th broke the game open, when his one-hopper just eluded the drawn-in infielders and allowed all four runners to score as the ball got past left fielder Alexei Shiroky for an error. With the game tied at 1-1, Isakadze led off the 5th inning with an infield single to shortstop and was safe at second base on An. Shiroky's throwing error after a bunt by Ronaldo Claro. Dmitri Kruglov grounded out to move the runners into scoring position before number nine hitter Pavel Gusakov's groundout drove in the go-ahead run. MGU made it 3-1 in the 7th on another Kruglov's groundout. Nikolos Bezhuashvili's two-out triple gave MGU a 1-0 lead in the first, but Spartak tied the score in the second on Roman Russu's RBI single. Spartak went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position, leaving 10 men on base, while MGU stranded only three. Anton Shiroky (3-4) threw 79 of his 107 pitches for strikes in a losing effort. He gave up seven runs, three earned, on eight hits in his third complete game of the season. He struck out three and walked none. |
