| Nikolos Bezhuashvili and Gennady Ardzhevanidze combined on a 3-hitter and struck out twelve as MGU defeated Moskvich 5 to 1 for the second time in as many days.
Bezhuashvili (1-0) did not allow Moskvich to hit the ball out of the infield until Nikolai Leman's popout to right in the 6th. The Georgian left-hander walked two and fanned nine, improving his RL record to 8-12 in four seasons. MGU put together five hits in the second inning against loser Andrei Anashkin (1-3), scoring four two-out runs. Number three hitter Alexandr Esin opened the 2nd with a single to center. After Anton Tzikunkov's grounder to the pitcher forced out Esin at second base, Dmitri Lukjanchikov put runners at the corners with a single to right. Moskvich's manager Leonid Korneev ordered an intentional pass to Bezhuashvili loading the bases for Yury Kozlovsky, who went down swinging with his 10th whiff in 21 at-bats, but Ronaldo Claro ruined the move, when his looper to shallow left field landed between converging left fielder Andrei Kripochin and third baseman Andrei Bolotin for a two-run single. With men on first and third and leadoff hitter Hilberto Lamadris at the plate, Claro stole second. Anashkin walked Lamadris on five pitches, with his last delivery getting away from the catcher, allowing Bezhuashvili to score from third base. 3-0, runners at the corners again. Alexei Valyalin followed with a groundball into the hole to right, that was stopped by diving second baseman Kirill Fedotov, but his throw from the knees was wide, resulting in a run-scoring infield hit. Kripochin finally ended the inning when he threw out Lamadris at the plate after Andzhei Tosta's single. Kripochin saved Anashkin another run with a sparkling play in the 6th, hauling in a Kozlovsky foul pop and throwing a bullet to the plate, which easily beat Dmitri Lukjanchikov, who tried to score from third. Kripochin leads the league with six outfield assists this year. Moskvich fielded a rather strange lineup in the game, with bench warmer Leman hitting cleanup and part-time outfielder Vladimir Antyukhov in the 5th slot. The two players went 0-for-8 with five strikeouts. |
