| Alexei Bakutkin and Maxim Yudaev extended their RL-best hitting streaks to 15 games each as the Army club outscored RusStar 15-5 at MGU stadium for its 12th win in a row.
The two players share the top spot with 35 hits each, leading VVIA's bid to become the first team to average .400 in a season. Bakutkin went 5-for-9 with seven RBIs in the two-game series against RusStar, while Yudaev scored seven runs and collected 3 hits in eight at-bats, lowering his league-leading average to .556. Andrei Polstyanov become the second VVIA hurler in two days to register his 25th career victory. The groundball-inducing specialist joined Yury Zhirov, who reached the plateau on Saturday. Fellow VVIA pitcher Vladimir Petrov was the first one to reach the milestone earlier this year. Polstyanov (4-0) gave up four runs on seven hits in five innings, walking one and striking out seven. He and reliever Nikolai Petrov combined for 12 groundball outs, while opposing hurlers retired 17 VVIA batters on flyballs. RusStar's Andrei Sergienkov tied his career high with three RBIs, hitting a two-run triple in the 2nd and a run-scoring single in the 4th. Normally a second baseman, he put away five flyballs and made two assists from his position in right field. |
