| SKV third baseman Ilia Bogatyrev's throwing error with two outs in the top of the 10th gave way to six unearned runs as Spartak outlasted SKV 11-7 behind Anton Shiroky's 10-inning complete game at MGU stadium.
With the score tied at 5 each, Pavel Evstegneev led off the inning with an infield single to third off reliever Andrei Bogatyrev (1-2), stole second and Stanislav Shevelev sacrificed. After Anton Shiroky struck out swinging, Spartak sent Alexandr Myaskov to bat for Roman Russu. Myaskov hit a harmless grounder towards third, leaving Spartak pinch-hitters hitless in 17 at-bats for the season, but the third baseman's throw to first was wide. Bogdan Kulik and Sergei Solovjev singled to load the bases before Igor Lyulchak hit a three-run triple to right for a 9-5 lead. After Valery Platonov walked and stole second, Oleg Semenov lined a double to right for two more runs. Spartak starter Shiroky (3-3) gave SKV consecutive losses for the first time this season with a 178-pitch effort. The gutty right-hander gave up seven runs on 11 hits, walking six and striking out 10. Four of the hits came in the bottom of the 10th inning, but Spartak turned a key 3-6-3 double play - its third of the game - to help Shiroky. Spartak scored three unearned runs against SKV starting pitcher Rinat Makhmutov in the second thanks to another Ilia Bogatyrev error and Kulik's two-out two-run single. SKV countered with a run in the 3rd, when Alexei Libin tripled with two away, but Makhmutov walked home his first two earned runs of the season in the 5th, making it 5-1, Spartak. SKV scratched a run in the 6th on Ilia Bogatyrev's bunt single, stolen base and Sergei Zhigalov's two-out hit off Shiroky's body. SKV rallied for three runs to tie the score in the 7th. Oleg Dolmatov singled to center and stole second. Shiroky got Alexei Golubev to pop out to first, but walked Yury Ershov on the full count and hit Ilia Nikolaenko on a two-strike delivery after Dolmatov and Ershov pulled out a double steal. SKV's leadoff man Libin cut the deficit to only one run with a two-run double to left before Ilia Bogatyrev's RBI groundout squared the matters. Makhmutov, who wound up with a no-decision, gave up six hits, walked five and fanned 11 in seven innings. The veteran hurler leads the Russian League with a 0.98 ERA. First baseman Shevelev started two 3-6-3 twin killings for Spartak and also doubled the same Ilia Bogatyrev off first base after Dmitri Lukin popped out. SKV cleanup man Dmitri Golubev's single in the 10th inning extended his hitting streak to 10 games. He struck out twice and grounded into a double play in his first four at-bats. |
