| Alexei Valyalin drove in four runs coming off the bench to help MGU snap Moskvich's three-game winning streak with an 8-7 come-from-behind victory at MGU stadium.
Valyalin's pinch-hit two-run single to left with two outs in the 5th inning gave MGU the lead for good, capping a four-run rally. The left-handed hitter doubled in two more runs in the 7th. Matvei Rusakov (2-0) pitched five solid innings in relief for the victory. The right-hander kept Moskvich in check until with two outs in the ninth, when he lost Vladimir Antyukhov on balls after an 8-pitch confrontation and Nikolai Leman beat out an infield single. Konstantin Kasjan followed with a two-run bloop double to right to bring Moskvich within one run, but Leonid Korneev struck out looking on a high Rusakov slider to end the game. MGU got a boost in return of hurlers Alexandr Isakadze and Nikolos Bezhuashvili as their Belgian team's season took a break. Isakadze, who struck out a RL-record 92 batters in 1997, fanned seven and walked six in four inning of work. He left the mound trailing 3-0 after throwing 105 pitches. Oleg Korneev (1-3) went the distance for the third time this season in a losing effort. He gave up 14 hits, walked one and struck out eight. The young righty has posted a 7.88 ERA and .372 opponents batting average in 24 innings in his three complete games - all losses, while having a 4.67 and .260 marks, respectively, in his other eight appearances, covering 27 innings. |
