| Andrei Anashkin and Andrei Bolotin shut down SKV offense in a 6-3 upset at MGU stadium as resurgent Moskvich won a season-high third straight game after dropping six in a row.
Rookie left-hander Anashkin outdueled SKV starter Arkady Hartyunov (1-1), handing over a 6-3 lead to reliever Bolotin (1-0), who followed with five shutout innings for his first win of the season. Number two hitter Andrei Sazonov doubled to right with one out in the first inning, took third on Andrei Kripochin's single to right and scored what proved to be the winning run on a line-drive single to center by Bolotin. Hartyunov then fanned Oleg Korneev, but hit Vladimir Antyukhov with a pitch and surrendered two more runs on a bases-loaded walk by Alexandr Polyakov and Kirill Fedotov's RBI single. Vladimir Timakov, 3-for-5 with two steals, added single runs in the 2nd and 4th, scoring on one-base hits by Kripochin, who had his second three-hit game this year, both coming against SKV. Sazonov, making his first start in two years outside of the the cleanup spot, went 2-for-5, but struck out twice for the first time since June 29, 1997, against Nikolos Bezhuashvili of Spartak. SKV's number four hitter Dmitri Lukin had his worst day at the plate in three seasons, going hitless in five at-bats. An unlikely strikeout victim as there is, he had two whiffs, the first such occasion over the span. Igor Makhambetov only compounded his teammate's miseries when he got doubled off first on a Lukin's lineout in the 3rd and was called out to leave second base early to kill a possible rally in the 7th. Trailing 6-3, Maxim Poleschuk and Makhambetov opened the top of the 7th with two singles off Bolotin and took third and second, respectively, on a passed ball. Lukin then hit a high pop to shallow right center, which seemed to fall for a Texas leaguer as both runners sprinted home. But rookie second baseman Fedotov somehow snared the ball for the out. After Sergei Zhigalov was drilled with a pitch to put men on the corners with two out, Bolotin intentionally walked Andrei Protasov and got Igor Gribanovsky on a popup to end the threat. Makhambetov later bounced into a 4-6-3 double play in the 9th, Moskvich's season-high third twin killing of the game. Middle infielders Polyakov and Fedotov combined for 8 putouts and 10 assists without an error for Moskvich. |
