| Moskvich swiped four bases on a rare play and climbed back into a tie for 3rd place with Spartak after an 11-5 win over RusStar.
After Moskvich loaded the bases on an error and two walks to begin the game, Artem Artamonov broke for home plate on the very first offering to cleanup hitter Andrei Sazonov (it was not clear whether it was a pitch or the pitcher stepped off the rubber first, but Sazonov didn't swing anyway) and slid in safely ahead of the catcher's tag. Andrei Bolotin, runner on first, then took off for second base, drawing a throw, and was safe with a delayed steal as Andrei Kripochin, originally runner from second, crossed the plate with his second stolen base on the play. RusStar's starter Roman Rozhkov (0-1), who had begun the season with the SKV ballclub, struggled in his second game with the new team. The veteran right-hander gave up six runs on one hit, seven walks and six wild pitches in less then two innings. RusStar plated four runs against Bolotin to came within four, but three Moskvich's relievers limited RusStar to one run over the final six frames. Rookie Pavel Akishev relieved Vladimir Antyukhov with the bases full and one out in the 5th and allowed only one runner to score. Akishev picked Vladimir Muratov off second, resulting in Valentin Alexandrov being thrown out at home in a rundown, and after wild-pitching in a run and reloading the bases with a walk, he fanned Mikhail Yakovlev. RusStar threatened again with two outs in the 6th, loading the bases on a single and two walks against Akishev, but Oleg Korneev (1-2) relieved and got RusStar' leading hitter Muratov to ground out to second to end the inning. Sazonov, who missed a two-run homer on a 3rd-inning drive just outside of the foul pole in left, went 0-for-5 with a sacrifice fly, dropping his batting average to .417. He's hitting only .222 (4-for-18) against RusStar's pitching. Bolotin went 3-for-7 in the two-game series and now leads Moskvich with a .422 mark. He has hit .625 (10-for-16) in four games against RusStar, while batting .310 (9-for-29) against all other teams. |
