| First baseman Alexandr Fedorov homered twice and raised his league-leading RBI total to 26 as the Army club pummeled former teammate Anton Shiroky (2-2) and two relievers for 23 runs and 21 hits in five innings at Balashikha.
Fedorov hit a three-run homer to left off Evgeny Petukhov in the 4th and belted his RL-best third home run of the season, a two-run shot to right center, against Stanislav Shevelev in the 5th. He also had a sacrifice fly and finished with six RBIs. VVIA's number nine hitter Alexandr Vashakidze also knocked in six, going 4-for-5 with three doubles. Alexandr Nizov, who singled in the go-ahead run in the first, collected three hits in four at-bats and drove in five. Shiroky registered four strikeouts in the second inning only to see his catcher Igor Lyulchak allow two of those four batters to reach first base on third-strike passed balls. Nikolai Petrov (3-0) gave up one run on four hits over five. He fanned five and walked none, throwing 45 of his 60 pitches for strikes. VVIA's catcher Evgeny Belousov left the game in the third inning with a bruised hip, the injury that was initially thought to be a ligament tear. Belousov missed the following game on Sunday, but is said to fully recover in a few days. |
