| Igor Lyulchak's inside-the-park homer leading off the bottom of the ninth lifted Spartak to what the Japanese call a sayonara victory and sent Moskvich to its sixth straight loss.
Lyulchak fouled off a 1-2 offering from the loser Alexandr Polyakov (0-2) before hitting a fly ball to deep right. Right fielder Sergei Vainbrand dived for the ball but couldn't get to it. Right-hander Alexei Shiroky pitched a scoreless top of the 9th for the win, tying VVIA's Yury Zhirov and Andrei Muratov of SKV for the league lead with a 3-0 record. Spartak, which hit five home runs in its last three games, tied the score at 3-all in the 6th when Alexandr Myaskov led off with another inside-the-park roundtripper to left. Moskvich drew two walks to begin the top of the 7th, but rookie rigth-hander Evgeny Petukhov fanned Vladimir Timakov and Artem Artamonov and Lyulchak picked Pavel Akishev off first for the third out. Akishev, another first-year player, got his first RL hit - a triple - in the 3rd and had two of his team' five hits. Spartak outhit struggling Moskvich 27-7 in the two-game series' sweep to even the season series between the two teams at 2 wins each. |
