| VVIA won its fifth straight game despite blowing a five-run lead, defeating Oleg Korneev (0-1) and Moskvich by a score of 10-5 at MGU stadium.
Alexandr Fedorov and Maxim Yudaev combined for six of the VVIA's 10 hits, each going 3-for-5. Fedorov opened the scoring with an RBI ground-rule double to right with two outs in the first and hit a two-run double in the 6th to raise his league-leading RBI total to 19. Alexandr Nizov put the Army club ahead to stay with a run-scoring fielder's choice before the Fedorov's second two-bagger of the game, but saw both his 7-game hitting streak and a record-tying string of eight consecutive hits snapped as he went hitless in four at-bats. VVIA starter Nikolai Petrov (2-0) didn't allow a runner past first base until the fourth inning, when he let Andrei Bolotin to reach second on a two-out wild pitch. Petrov then issued the season's first intentional walk to Andrei Sazonov and got Andrei Kripochin on a grounder to first. Trailing 5-0 in the bottom of the 5th, Moskvich exploded for five two-out runs to tie the score. With runners on first and third, Vladimir Timakov bounced the ball over the head of Alexandr Vashakidze in left field for a two-run triple and scored on Artem Artamonov single. Bolotin advanced Artamonov to third with a single to right and Sazonov lined a high and inside changeup into the left field corner for a two-run double. VVIA immediately countered with four runs as Korneev, who already had thrown 96 pitches, lost his command for a moment, walking the first three batters to begin the top of the 6th. Andrei Polstyanov pitched three perfect innings for his first save. |
