| Ilia Bogatyrev and Sergei Zhigalov each drove in three runs as the first-place SKV scored a season-high 21 runs in a defeat of Spartak.
SKV broke the game open with a six-run 4th inning, taking advantage of seven walks issued by Spartak's starting pitcher Sergei Solovjev (0-1). SKV starter Andrei Muratov (2-0) gave up five runs (only two earned) in five innings for the victory. Alexandr Bogatyrev, playing in his first RL game since severely breaking his leg in a collision with CSKA catcher Andrei Selivanov on August 30th , 1998, pitched well in relief, going three and a third of an inning. He allowed three runs - one earned - on two hits and three walks and struck out four batters. Third baseman Oleg Semenov went 3-for-3 with a walk and a sacrifice fly for Spartak, but his base-running blunder in the bottom of the 4th, when he was thrown out trying to steal home on a return throw to the pitcher, that with one out, men on second and third and the 3-0 count on the batter, denied Spartak of a potentially big inning. |
