| Vladimir Muratov (1-0) held Moskvich to four runs in nine innings for his first RL victory. The 17-year old right-hander gave up nine hits, struck out three and walked three in the league's first complete game of the season, while improving his career record to 1-5.
Andrei Sergienkov, who hit only .173 in 1997-98, led RusStar offense from the leadoff spot, going 3-for-4 with a double and a triple. And it was him who went into a rundown between first and second in the top of the ninth inning, which allowed Muratov to score the winning run from third base on defensive indifference. Muratov walked on four pitches against the loser Vladimir Antyukhov (1-1) with one out in the ninth. After Artem Artamonov relieved, Muratov stole second and took third on a passed ball. Sergienkov then drew a full-count walk, and in the ensuing rundown RusStar's pitcher Artamonov ignored the third base runner, choosing to play against Sergienkov only. RusStar had runners on first and second with two outs in the bottom of the 9th, but Muratov got Andrei Kripochin to ground out to first base to end the game. Moskvich starter Oleg Korneev pitched eight solid innings, giving up seven hits, two walks and striking out six. He got a no-decision as he left the game after eight innings with the score tied at 4. Andrei Sazonov went hitless in three at-bats to end his '97-'99 hitting streak at 24 games. He failed to get a hit in a RL game for the first time since June 26th, 1997, when he went 0-for-2 against Spartak's Alexandr Isakadze. |
