| Moskvich used a 20-hit attack to humiliate Spartak 23-10, sweeping this two-game series.
Center fielder Dmitri Likhin went 4-for-5 with 5 RBIs and just barely missed hitting for a cycle. Already with a triple, double and single, he ripped a hard grounder down the first-base line in the 6th inning. The ball went all the way into the right-field corner, allowing Likhin to score, but he was credited only with a triple on the play as right fielder Ivan Pyshnenko misplayed the ball for an error. Likhin tore up Spartak pitching in the series, hitting 7-for-8 (.857) with 12 total bases, and made crucial pitching effort in a 6-5 win in the first game. But unfortunately for Moskvich, he is leaving to play in the Czech Republic for the second year in a row and won't return home until late in June. Spartak offense badly struggled in the series, averaging a miserable .170. Newcomer Valery Platonov has been up to the expectations, going 2-for-3 with six walks, scoring five runs and playing flawless defense at short, but with the offense like this he is still looking for his first RBI of the year. |
