| Pinch hitter Alexei Golubev hit a two-run single with the bases loaded in the ninth as the SKV came back to a 19-18 triumph over the MGU-78.
After having been suspended because of darkness in June, the game had to be continued with nobody out in the bottom of the 9th, runners on the corners, SKV trailing 18-16. The 78ers brought in reliever Alexandr Esin to face Evgeny Puchkov, RL's two-time batting champ back in 1994 and 1995. Esin's first pitch, a ball, resulted in a passed ball, as Alexandr Bogatyrev advanced to second base. The next offering was a wild pitch advancing both runners 90 feet. Esin then threw two more balls to Puchkov and was replaced by Anton Tzikunkov. Still no outs, runners on first and third, but now only one-run lead. SKV's RBI leader Igor Makhambetov, batting for Yury Ershov, was given an intentional walk to load the bases before Alexei Golubev drilled a grounder up the middle for the victory. |
